Hostel Review: Alcazaba Premium Hostel Malaga

The more I travel the more I value a solid review. Whether it’s a restaurant review, hotel or hostel review, or museum review, I just know I value other travelers’ opinions. Well. Trusted traveler opinions. So, because I know I am a trusted traveler for some, I thought I’d be more proactive with my reviewing on the blog, starting with my first hostel review from my trip to Malaga!

My weekend in Malaga was actually fairly spur of the moment and budget was definitely a priority, which meant I’d be staying in a hostel. Once I figured out my dates and everywhere I wanted to go, I narrowed down the location parameters and searched until I found the Alcazaba Premium Hostel!

Location

I cannot recommend this hostel enough, on location alone. It is directly behind (or in front of?) the Alcazaba, next to several of the streets with bars, shops and restaurants, and about a 15 minute walk to the Malagueta beach. If you’re going to Malaga specifically for the beach I’d probably recommend something closer, but this is close to everything else and close enough for a beach day.

Accommodation

At the end of the day, the Alcazaba Premium hostel is a hostel, but it’s actually part of a hotel chain, so it’s a bit nicer than most hostels. The room and common areas were spotless, very bright and spacious. Storage space in the room was fairly ample, with under-bed lockers and then an additional locker rack. Also, the under-bed lockers weren’t fully enclosed which is perfect to make sure your clothes airs out and doesn’t get that stuffy smell. My carry-on suitcase fit easily in the under-bed locker, which was perfect.

Customer Service

This is super subjective, but my experience with the front desk staff was wonderful. My check in was quick and easy, and the girl even gave me the option to change into a different room that had fewer people over the course of my stay. When I got up to my room and wanted to change beds, she made that happen as well! Another person at the front desk was really helpful with recommendations for restaurants. The check out process was also seamless, and the guy at the front desk was helpful with storing my luggage for the afternoon. I never had problems for them to solve but they were always friendly and smiling!

Price

I arrived on a Thursday night, which was a few euros cheaper, but my three night stay totaled at 62€ for an all-female bedroom with private bath. I booked the 6 person room but ended up staying in the 10 person room because it only had four people in it during that weekend. I’d say all things considered, that’s a pretty decent price.

Overall Review

Overall, I absolutely loved the Alcazaba Premium Hostel. The fact that it was so close to everything really made getting around the city easy. If I stay in a hostel next time I go, the Alcazaba Premium Hostel is definitely where I’ll stay!

Let me know if you make it down to Malaga!
